Can Learning a foreign language help you teach your native language?
If you are teaching English as a second language outside of the U.S. Learning the local language can greatly aid in your ability to teach English. As an English teacher in China I find this very useful. We have something called
Chinglish. While my Chinese ability is far, far from perfect. The more I learn the more I come to understand the mistakes that cause Chinglish. The result, I believe makes me a better English teacher and hopefully a better learner of the Chinese language.
